Open access agreement for authors at eligible UK institutions
Publish open access with Wiley
Beginning 2 March 2020, authors affiliated with UK institutions participating in Wiley’s Jisc agreement may publish primary research and review articles in any of Wiley’s fully gold open access journals or Wiley’s subscription journals which offer open access with no further open access costs* to the author.
To publish without having to pay additional Article Publication Charges (APCs), the article's corresponding author must be from a participating UK institution (see the UK section of our Institutional & Funder Payments page) and the article must have been accepted on or after 2 March 2020.
*subject to availability of sufficient funds and approval from eligible institutions' Wiley Open Access Account holders
To be eligible:
Your manuscript must have been accepted on or after 2 March 2020
You must be the corresponding author who is affiliated with a participating UK institution (see the UK section of our Institutional & Funder Payments page)
You must publish open access in a fully gold OA journal or a hybrid (subscription) journal that offers open access
Primary research and review articles qualify1
For dates 1 July 2021 to 31 December 2021 inclusive, there are additional eligibility restrictions based on original research funder. View our FAQ here for more information. Research for the article must have been funded by one of the following organizations:
UKRI (UK Research and Innovation)2
Research charities previously part of COAF, the Charity Open Access Fund3
To be included in the deal prior to these restrictions coming into place, you must have submitted your article (Fully Gold OA journal) or had your article approved for publication (Hybrid OA journal) and requested/taken up the open access offer in Wiley Author Services, prior to 1 July 2021, in order to qualify.
If funding is no longer available through your institution, a 25% discount has been set up for Jisc authors through the ‘author pays’ route. Please contact your local open access librarian for instructions.
If publishing in a hybrid (subscription) journal, you must order open access at the point of acceptance by using our order workflow as described below4
This agreement cannot be used to cover additional charges (e.g. cover, color, and page charges), which individual journals administer separately.
