Open access agreement for eligible UK institutions

Publish open access with Wiley

Beginning 2 March 2020, authors affiliated with UK institutions participating in Wiley’s Jisc agreement may publish primary research and review articles in any of Wiley’s fully gold Open Access or Wiley’s hybrid (subscription), OnlineOpen journals with no further open access costs* to the author.


To publish without having to pay additional Article Publication Charges (APCs), the article's corresponding author must be from a participating UK institution (see the UK section of our Institutional & Funder Payments page) and the article must have been accepted on or after 2 March 2020.

*subject to availability of sufficient funds and approval from eligible institutions' Wiley Open Access Account holders


To be eligible:

  • Your manuscript must have been accepted on or after 2 March 2020
  • You must be the corresponding author who is affiliated with a participating UK institution (see the UK section of our Institutional & Funder Payments page)
  • You must publish open access in a fully gold OA journal or a hybrid (subscription) journal that offers OnlineOpen
  • Primary research and review articles qualify1
  • If publishing in a hybrid (subscription) journal, you must order OnlineOpen at the point of acceptance by using our order workflow as described below2
  • This agreement cannot be used to cover additional charges (e.g. cover, color, and page charges), which individual journals administer separately.
  • For dates 12th October 2020 to 31st December 2020 inclusive, there are additional eligibility restrictions based on original research funder. Research for the article must have been funded by one of the following organizations:
    • UKRI (UK Research and Innovation)3
    • Wellcome Trust
    • Blood Cancer UK
    • British Heart Foundation
    • Cancer Research UK
    • Parkinson's UK
    • Versus Arthritis
  • If funding is no longer available through your institution, a 25% discount has been set up for Jisc authors through the ‘author pays’ route. Please contact your local open access librarian for instructions.

How to publish your article open access

Eligible authors may publish open access in one of two ways:


Publish in any of Wiley's fully gold Open Access journals (View journal list) and follow the instructions in the PDF below.
Publish in any of Wiley’s hybrid (subscription) journals that offer OnlineOpen (View journal list) and follow the instructions in the PDF below.

2If you do not order OnlineOpen, your manuscript will be published as a subscription (closed access) article. Once your paper is published in Early View or In Issue online you will no longer be eligible to publish OnlineOpen under the agreement.
