Wiley Open Access journals publish high-quality, peer-reviewed original research across a broad range of scientific disciplines. Manuscripts can be submitted directly, with a number of journals also receiving papers that are referred by other Wiley journals participating in a transfer program.
A full list of available Wiley Open Access titles is available on our Browse Journals page.
Most subscription-based Wiley journals offer an open access option. Authors pay an article publication fee to make their paper freely available. More information on this option, including fees, is available on our Hybrid open access page.
Many Wiley Open Access journals are published in collaboration with learned societies. In addition, a number of society titles support Wiley Open Access journals by participating in the Manuscript Transfer Program.
Go to Browse Journals, select the journal which you are interested in and click ‘Journal Information’ to go to the journal’s web page.
Papers can be submitted directly to Wiley Open Access journals through an online submission site. To submit a manuscript, go to Browse Journals, select the journal you wish to submit to, and click the ‘Submit a Manuscript’ link. Alternatively, from the journal homepage on Wiley Online Library, select the ‘Submit an Article’ link on the left-hand menu.
For information on article submission please refer to the Author Guidelines of your chosen journal. From the journal homepage on Wiley Online Library, select the ‘Author Guidelines’ link on the left-hand menu. You can also review our Manuscript Preparation Guidelines here.
The review process varies from journal to journal, but all titles aim to have an efficient peer review and production process to facilitate rapid publication.
The papers referred to Wiley Open Access journals via the Manuscript Transfer Program will be considered in light of the original reviewers’ comments. Authors can choose to automatically transfer and submit their paper, along with the related reviews, to the appropriate Wiley Open Access journal editors. Papers will not need to be reformatted.
Once the author has agreed to submit and transfer their paper to a Wiley Open Access journal, editorial decisions will be made in the usual way, i.e. accept, accept with minor revisions, major revisions requested, reject.
Articles submitted directly to a Wiley Open Access journal will be fully peer reviewed by at least two appropriately qualified experts in the field selected by the Editor-in-Chief. The Editor-in-Chief or a designated member of the Editorial Board will then decide whether to accept, reject or request revisions based on the reviews and comments received.
Editors will decide whether each submission reports well-conducted research with conclusions supported by the data presented in the paper. Assessments of priority will not be a factor in decision-making, but all papers must make an incremental or novel addition to the literature.
All of Wiley’s fully open access journals publish open access articles under a Creative Commons License. Authors retain the copyright to their work and the public is allowed to reuse the content. You grant Wiley a license to publish the article and identify as the original publisher. Most of the journals in our open access program offer one or more of three license types; read your chosen journal’s author guidelines for details on the journal’s specific copyright agreement. All Wiley Open Access journals allow authors to comply with funder mandates which require their articles to be published under a CC-BY license.
Wiley will apply to abstract and indexing services that are appropriate for each journal, including ISI Web of Science. Full information about this for each journal can be found on individual journal homepages.
All articles are published on Wiley Online Library and are immediately freely available to read, download and share. You can search for a specific article on the Wiley Online Library homepage, or visit a journal homepage for a full list of issues.
Each journal has an Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editors (for some titles) and an editorial board consisting of experts in the fields that are included in the scope of the journal. The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for ensuring the overall quality of the journal, making final accept/reject decisions with support from the Associate Editors and editorial board members.
The internal editorial structure includes a publisher, managing editor and editorial assistant to facilitate the publications process.
To cover publication costs, Wiley Open Access journals charge a publication fee. The Article Publication Charge (APC) is the price an author, institution or funder pays on acceptance for publication of an open access article. APCs vary depending on the journal; for a full list of Wiley Open Access and hybrid open access fees, see here. Discounts are available for authors of referred papers, members of participating society journals submitting articles directly, and authors from institutions with a Wiley Open Access Account.
Authors resident in any of the countries of the European Union have to add Value-Added Tax (VAT). Institutions paying the fee on behalf of the author can in most cases have the VAT refunded, or, by providing their VAT registration number*, avoid paying VAT altogether (*except UK).
GST and HST will be applied on digital publishing services supplied to Canadian customers at the applicable rate depending on the province.
Payment of the Article Publication Charge can be made by credit card, check or bank transfer. Details are included in the invoice that you’ll receive.
The corresponding author is responsible for making payment of Article Publication Charges or for providing details of the funding organization or institution that will be making payment on their behalf. If your manuscript’s Article Publication Charge is being paid by a funding organization or institution then payment will be made by the appropriate funding body directly with Wiley Open Access.
More information on Article Publication Charges can be found here.
Absolutely - details of the institutional and funder accounts that we offer can be found here.
Fee waivers or discounts are available for authors based in countries listed here.
Because Wiley Open Access articles are published using a Creative Commons License, content is easy for readers and authors to share. A suite of post-publication tools, including social networking links, is prominently displayed with each article online. Other tools and resources are available on our Journal Author Resources pages, including the Author Self-Promotional Toolkit.
In December 2023, we shared that Wiley will be retiring the Hindawi brand. We have since begun to fully integrate the 200+ Hindawi journals into Wiley’s journal portfolio. The continued integration of Hindawi journals into Wiley’s portfolio benefits authors, editors, and the communities we serve by providing a more consistent user experience, delivering more sophisticated technology, and expanding open access publishing routes.
In mid-April 2024 all Hindawi titles began using Wiley's manuscript submission platform. All Hindawi journals, including published articles, migrated onto Wiley Online Library, Wiley's content hosting platform, in June 2024.

As of June 6th, all Hindawi titles are using Wiley's state-of-the-art manuscript submission platform. You will be able to access a journal’s new submission platform by following the submit link from a journal’s homepage. To start a new submission on the new platform, you will need to create a new or utilize an existing Connect ID account. Additionally, ORCIDs will now be required for all submitting authors at submission instead of at publication.
Any manuscripts currently under review or in production for publication will continue.
All Hindawi titles are accepting submissions and continue to publish articles without interruption during this period, including submissions to Special Issues. All opened Special Issues will continue to run and will remain open to manuscript submissions throughout this transition period.
For authors who submit to any Special Issues prior to the submission system change in mid-April, your manuscript will continue as normal through the peer review process and there is nothing you need to do. Any submission that is in draft stage at the time of the submission platform change will need to be restarted on the new platform.
Screening standards and processes for Special Issues proposals will remain unchanged for all proposals currently in progress, as well as any new proposals to be submitted from mid-April onwards.
No, there will be no changes to editorial practices such as peer review as a result of this transition.
There are no planned changes to journal aims and scopes due to the portfolio integration.
We do not expect changes to individual journal’s decision and publication times.
No.
While there will be no immediate changes to APCs, Wiley reviews the APCs of all Open Access journals periodically to reflect the cost of publishing and value provided to the research community.
If you wish to redeem any unused and unexpired APC discount codes for Hindawi journals, please contact Customer Support at reviewhelp@wiley.com.
Starting in January 2024, TAs* that provide funding for publishing in fully gold open access journals also cover journals that are published by Hindawi. If you’re interested in publishing in a fully gold journal, check wileyauthors.com for details about fund coverage. (*with the exception of CDL/SCELC)
Author resources including support for finding a journal, preparation of a manuscript, submission, open access and article promotion are available at wileyauthors.com. Hindawi authors will receive email communications from Wiley introducing them to the tools and resources available for their next submission.

As of June 5, 2024, all articles are published and managed by Wiley. However, until all journals switch to using Wiley Author Services in September 2024, payment of Article Processing Charges (APCs) will be handled by Hindawi via invoicing.hindawi.com. Messaging like the below will be included in all acceptance letters from former Hindawi journals.
“Your article will be published and managed by Wiley. Payment of Article Processing Charges (APCs) will be handled by Hindawi. If an APC applies, you will receive an invoice and further payment instructions from Hindawi shortly.”
